THE FRIENDS OF WAKE COUNTY GUARDIAN AD LITEM

making a world of difference…one child at a time

AbOut Friends of GAL:

bullet

The Friends of Wake County Guardian ad Litem, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization run entirely by volunteers, was formed in 1991.

bullet

Because we are staffed by a group of wonderful volunteers who donate their time, talent, and resources, 100% of all donations go directly to further our mission and donations are 100% tax-deductible.

bullet

The Friends of GAL coordinates projects to enhance the lives of children in foster care, kinship care, and other temporary custody situations.  We identify and respond to the needs of children with the help of many community partners.

bullet

The Friends of Gal conducts several projects throughout the year that provide much needed resources and services to children in need.

bullet

We provide children with tutoring lessons, special needs such as wheelchairs and corrective eyeglasses; camp sponsorships and field trips; and assistance to youth who aged out of the foster care system.

bullet

In addition, we provide assistance to the Wake Guardian ad Litem Program.

THE BACK TO SCHOOL WITH PRIDE PROJECT

The Back to School Pride Project provides book bags and school supplies for children involved with the Guardian ad Litem program and with Wake County Human Services.

Friends of Wake County GAL started The Back to School Pride Project to give children hope, to ensure that they have a positive start at school, and to help them to maintain their own sense of hope and excitement about the first day of school.

Click here for the Back to School With Pride Project Flyer

We locate sponsors who agree to help children start school with the supplies to succeed by purchasing book bags or backpacks and supplies for a cost of $20.00 – $45.00 per child.

The group contacts Friends of GAL to provide the number of children they plan to sponsor.

The Back to School Committee arranges to pick up and distribute the supplies

Friends of GAL also raises funds to help those children who are not sponsored by a group.

THE TREASURE BOX PROJECT

The Treasure Box Project provides beautifully decorated small wood chests to children entering foster care.  The children can carry the chests with them and use them to hold and protect their precious items.

The chests are filled with toiletries and other items to soften the transition for children who are leaving their homes under great stress and arriving at unfamiliar places.

Guardian ad Litem Volunteers can pick up a Treasure Chest from the Wake County GAL office whenever one is needed.

THE GUARDIAN ANGEL CHRISTMAS PROJECT

The Guardian Angel Project provides gifts to children at Christmas who would otherwise go without.  With the help of sponsors, the Friends of Gal provides Christmas gifts for hundreds of children.
